The Year 8 curriculum offers students the opportunity to specialise by selecting subjects in which they wish to deepen and refine their skills and knowledge. Content and assessment is based upon the Australian Curriculum while also preparing students for the Senior Phase of Learning. The model of engaging in core and elective subjects enables students to have sufficient breadth while discovering areas of enjoyment and proficiency.

The Year 9 and 10 curriculum offers students the opportunity to focus on areas of interest in preparation for the Senior Phase of Learning. Skills, content and assessment are closely aligned to the patterns and ways of learning in Senior subjects. A broader range of subjects are available for students to choose in order to specialise in areas they may wish to pursue in Years 11 and 12.

The Senior curriculum includes compulsory subjects and a breadth of elective subjects providing boys’ with a challenging and engaging programme.

Moreton Bay Boys’ College provides a variety of possible pathways that allow boys to undertake a course of study in their senior school years that meets their individual learning needs and allows them to gain tertiary entrance. Boys may elect to take a typical senior secondary curricula, studying six subjects for each of four semesters in Years 11 and 12. They may also elect to include Vocational Education as part of their study load. MBBC students may also apply for the opportunity to study Year 11 and 12 over three years within a Variable Progression Rate (VPR) course of study. The VPR programme is designed to assist individual students to design a senior secondary curriculum, which meets his learning needs. 

ATAR pathway

MBBC offers Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) General senior subject syllabuses in Year 11 and 12. Results in General subjects contribute to the award of a QCE and may contribute to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) calculation. Typically, it is expected that most students will complete these courses across Years 11 and 12. All subjects build on the P–10 Australian Curriculum.

Non ATAR pathways

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships

Boys may commence a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship in the senior years of schooling at MBBC. This involves TAFE study combined with school-based study and on-the-job training. 

Vocational education and training (VET) 

Modules undertaken through TAFE and private providers may gain credit towards a selection rank as well as the QCE.
